Life is better together.
Relationships matter.
These aren't just catchy sayings or cliches. These values drive us a body of Christ followers. We believe the Bible clearly teaches that life alongside fellow believers is crucial. In a time when isolation is the norm, small groups help us press into community and aid in our spiritual formation.
Our small group ministry provides a place where believers can grow in their relationship with the Lord while simultaneously growing in their relationship with one another. They help us know and be known.
All small groups at CBC meet on Sunday from 6:00pm-7:30pm in homes throughout our community! Signup for one below or contact the church office for more information!
Fall 2022 Small Groups
Sundays from 6:00pm-7:30pm // September 11th -December 18th

Chris & Ashley Wacker : Psalm 119
Even the most mature believers face dark nights of the soul. During those times God seems distant, his Word feels dry, and the vibrant intimacy we knew before seems absent leaving us wondering, “Where is the Lord in this?” In Psalm 119, Matt Chandler aims to introduce viewers to the words of King David who experienced similar seasons of life. Serving as the anchor for the study, Psalm 119 demonstrates the power of God’s Word in the lives of believers and its ability to provide a warm blanket for the soul.

Greg & Glenna Teague: ALPHA Fundamentals of the Faith
What am I doing on Earth? What is the point of life? Where am I headed? Is there life after this life? Is There more to life than this? Alpha is for those who desire to examine their spiritual lives as well as those who want to grow in their defense of the faith. Alpha at Calvary Baptist Church starts with a meal at 5:15! Jacob & Jenny Tanner: James: A Faith that Works
We all want a faith that won't let us down in times of trouble or loss, uncertainty or fear. A faith that can pull us through the worst--and best--times in our lives. This is the kind of faith that James writes about. It is a faith that we must practice day by day, a faith that works." This small group only requires a Bible, and we have extras if you forget yours. (Note - If you can't make every week's lesson, have to discontinue coming late in the semester, or will have to start later in the year, that's okay. Each week will have a stand-alone lesson, not strictly dependent on attending all of the previous gatherings.

Fall 2023 Small Groups
Sundays from 6:00pm-7:30pm // September 10 - December 17

Chris & Ashley Wacker : Romans (Closed)
The book of Romans is considered by many to be one of the most important books ever written on the Christian faith. Writing to Christians, the apostle Paul defines the gospel, explores its depths, and discusses its significance and implications for the Christian life.

Phil & Barbara Cockrell: Culture Shock
Where do you stand on issues like: Truth, Sex, Homosexuality, Abortion, the Environment, and the Church and Politics? More importantly, what does God say? More than ever before, believers must develop convictions based on research, reason, and biblical truth. But it doesn’t stop there. It’s equally important that you’re able (and willing) to communicate these convictions with a love and respect that reflects God’s love. This series will help you learn how to respond with love, even in the face of controversy. In the process, you’ll discover the power of bringing light–not heat–to the core issues at the heart of society today.

Mark and Marie Bridges: Bad Theology (Closed)
Focal Point U provides seminary-style study series by Pastor Mike Fabarez that take you through the different branches of theology.
The semester focuses on the aberrant theologies of today. Pastor Mike walks us through the “Bad Theology” of many of today’s popular cults, heresies and world religions.

Jonathan and Beth Dowty: Sermon Rewind
Ever wanted to ask a question during the sermon? Join our small group as we share our thoughts and questions each week on the Sunday morning sermon. We'll reason together to understand the Biblical text more and work to apply the message to our daily lives. Missed the sermon? That's ok! The starting point is the Biblical text, and we'll review it together. So scribble some notes on the back of the bulletin and join us as we dive deeper into God's Word!

Stew & Gayleen Frederick: Gospel Centered Life (Closed)
Lots of Christians talk about the gospel, but how many really understand the gospel and know how to apply it to their lives? Featuring nine self-contained lessons with discussion questions, articles, practical exercises, and comprehensive leader’s notes in the back, The Gospel-Centered Life helps participants understand how the gospel shapes every aspect of life.

Jacob Tanner: Financial Peace
"Take control of your money with Financial Peace University! This class uses biblical wisdom and common sense to help you tackle budgeting, pay off debt, and make your money work for you!" My wife, Jenny, and I used this program to get out of debt about a year before she passed away. It was a sure comfort to us that we didn't have credit card bills or car debt to worry about. We were able to take her to every specialist recommended and not worry about how we were going to pay for them. And, when she passed away I could quickly write a check for her final expenses because we had it in our emergency fund. This course is worth the $80 for the book and online accesses, but don't let $80 keep you from taking it. If cost is going to be an issue, I've already worked out several scholarships.
Rick and Sharon Johnson: 1 John

The parallelisms in 1 John are striking for their simplicity: Christ vs. antichrists, light vs. darkness, truth vs. falsehood, righteousness vs. sin, love of the Father vs. love of the world, and the Spirit of God vs. the spirit of the Antichrist. While this is not a complete list, it reveals a letter that presents the world in an uncomplicated way—there is right and there is wrong, period. This emphasis by John, while striking, is not without love. It’s quite the opposite, in fact. John recognized that love comes from God, and he encouraged the believers to love one another (1 John 4:7). John’s first epistle teaches that while it is important to recognize the lines between truth and error, it must always be done in a spirit of love.
